Seed and Early-Stage Capital
We invest between $50,000 and $500,000 in seed and early-stage funding rounds in syndication with other VCs and angel investors. We occasionally lead and co-lead rounds.
Southeast Focus
We invest in thriving entrepreneurial ecosystems throughout the Southeast U.S. including Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville, Nashville, Orlando, Tampa, Raleigh-Durham-RTP and others.
Industry Agnostic
We invest in a wide range of tech-driven and tech-enabled industries including software/SaaS, AI, fintech, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, consumer products, and digital media.
Long-Term Commitment
Startups need time to grow and mature. JVP has an open-ended life cycle, allowing patient growth of portfolio companies without superficial time constraints.
What We Look for in Startups
- Based in the Southeast U.S.
- Exceptional entrepreneurial team committed full-time to the venture
- Scalable product or service addressing a large market opportunity
- Tech-driven or tech-enabled
- Recurring or repeatable revenue model (MRR/ARR)
- Measurable traction in the form of early adopter revenue, beta testing, pilot/POC, or clinical data (Our sweet spot is early-stage companies that have bootstrapped their way to a market-ready product or service and are now seeking capital to fuel initial sales growth)
- Seed or early-stage funding round
- Pre-money valuation under $10M
- C-Corp (no LLCs or partnerships)
- Potential to generate 10x+ return multiple

Matt Johnson
Managing Partner
Matt Johnson is a venture capitalist with a passion for backing exceptional entrepreneurs and building the Southeast’s startup ecosystem. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Johnson Venture Partners (JVP), an Atlanta-based micro VC focused on seed and early-stage startups. At JVP, Matt oversees deal sourcing, due diligence, portfolio support, and fund operations—having invested in more than 40 startups over 15+ years in early-stage venture. Matt is a member of Atlanta Technology Angels and VentureSouth, serves on the Venture Atlanta selection committee, and is a board member and advisor to multiple high-growth companies. He is also a Founding Partner of Fund That Tiger, an early-stage venture fund investing in Clemson University alumni-led startups. Matt holds a BA and MBA from Clemson University, where he has also served as a faculty member in entrepreneurship.

Robert Cramer
General Partner
Bob Cramer is a seasoned investor and entrepreneur with over 35+ years’ experience in building, running, and investing in technology companies. Bob was a founder, CEO and Chairman of A.D.A.M., Inc, a health and anatomical information provider, and spearheaded the company’s IPO in 1995 through its sale in 2010. Bob also co-founded ThePort Network, an early social networking platform, which today is part of Canopy Workforce Solutions. Bob served as the Executive Vice President of Synthio, a contact data management company, previously serving as the Board Chairman until the company raised venture capital in 2015. In addition, Bob is a founder and former Chairman of Keenly Health, the creator of a touchless health monitoring system for seniors, and the former Chairman of SmartPM, an Atlanta-based construction analytics platform. Bob also served as the Chairman of the Board of the Metro-Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless for 15 years. Today, Bob advises numerous early stage technology and health-related companies on business operations, go-to-market strategies and fundraising approaches. Bob attended Emory University and graduated from Tufts University. Bob and his wife, Sally, have three children and live in Atlanta.
